The OVAL is not only a world class speedskating and bandy facility, it also provides a cost effective practice facility for the Roseville and Mounds View youth hockey associations. The infield portion is designated as four hockey rinks while speed skaters train on the track portion. The two areas are separated by padding and safety netting.
During designated Public Skating/Open Hockey sessions, the infield of the OVAL can be divided into 4 hockey rinks where patrons can enjoy "pond hockey" style games on professionally maintained ice. It's not uncommon to have up to 200 people playing hockey during a public session.
In the summer, the OVAL has an official inline hockey rink on the smooth concrete surface where kids and adults can practice their inline hockey skills all summer long.
Minnesota is the ‘State of Hockey’, but…
Many Minnesotans have never had a chance to try hockey. Often hockey is perceived as too expensive, too complicated, or too competitive. The Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association (RAYHA) is on a mission to change that—We want ALL Roseville area kids to give it a try!
The ‘1st Skate’ Hockey Program is specifically designed for kids & families who are unfamiliar with (or completely new to) hockey. We’ll cover all the basics, and keep the focus on FUN! The cost is $75 and equipment rental is available during the program.
