Speedskating
The OVAL is home to several local speed skating programs, including the Greater Minnesota Speedskating Association (GMSA) and the Midway Speedskating Club. GMSA and Midway have produced several Olympic skaters and coaches over the years.
There is a novice speed skating program for girls and boys ages 4 through 13. Participants learn the fundamentals and proper techniques of speed skating with the opportunity to take part in optional weekend meets during the season. The novice speed skating program operates from late November to late February
The OVAL is also a place for adults to learn the lifelong sport of speed skating. These lessons for adults, individual or group, are held at different times during the winter and summer (for inline speedskaters).
The metro girls speed skating program is a one of a kind program that is comprised of high school age student-athletes from Mounds View and Roseville high schools. It is recognized as a varsity sport by both schools.
The Midway Speedskating Club
The Midway Speedskating Club is a non-profit, parent-run, organization committed to the development of young skaters in the sport of Speedskating. The club primarily focuses on skaters 18 years and younger, although older skaters who have grown with the club and have obtained "elite status" are also coached. In addition, the Club helps sponser several out-of-town national-level and olympic-level skaters who have grown with the Club.
